2014 Greater Cincinnati Food Tour — Mokka in Newport, Kentucky

Mokka and the Sunset Bar and Grill

Newport, Kentucky

By Alix Smyth

It’s Valentine’s Day and I’m falling head over heels for Mokka and the Sunset Bar and Grill. “Mokka” is an open and airy bar filled with friendly employees and valentine décor to celebrate the day of love. They have gone the extra mile to celebrate this day by adorning each table with a heart shaped balloon, special red and white plates, and dishes of Hershey’s kisses.

Shortly, after being seated, a friendly waitress took our drink orders and we all were left to decide what we were going to lunch on. Mokka’s menu has a variety of options, including breakfast which is served until 3:00 p.m. I opted to go with the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich, one of the more modest sandwiches on their creatively crafted menu. Upon being served my sandwich I couldn’t help diving right in. The smell of the sandwich was absolutely enticing and with a taste to match I couldn’t ask for anything better. The sandwich contained fried buffalo chicken tenders that were topped with ranch, lettuce, and tomato all nestled between two seasoned hoagie buns. To complete the meal, crispy waffle fries were served alongside the perfectly crafted sandwich; a match made in sandwich heaven. After clearing my plate, I knew I had discovered a restaurant that I will be having a long term relationship with.

If you haven’t been to Mokka yet, do yourself a favor and visit. Their delicious food, welcoming atmosphere, and grade-A-service can’t be beat. Thank you, Mokka for being my first “restaurant love” at the Eisen Agency; I’ll be seeing you soon.
