Coca-Cola Consolidated and Kroger Team up with Zack Cozart for “Message in a Bottle” Program

CINCINNATI, OH (June 20, 2017) – Coca-Cola Consolidated, Kroger, and The United Service Organization (USO) are teaming up with Cincinnati Reds’ Shortstop Zack Cozart for the “Message in a Bottle” program to  support our military personnel and veterans. Participating fans will have a chance to meet Zack Cozart and support our troops at the July 15th event.

“We are deeply grateful for the sacrifices our service men and women make for our country every day,” says Brian Outland, Cincinnati Vice-President of Sales for Coca-Cola Consolidated. “The Message in a Bottle program is a heartfelt way for the community to show our sincere gratitude.”

The campaign will collect hundreds of written messages from residents of the greater Cincinnati area. Employees at the local Coca-Cola branch will write and insert the messages into Coca-Cola bottles to be distributed via the USO to active-duty military around the world.

Message in a Bottle will kick off with a Meet & Greet and autograph signing by Reds’ Shortstop Zack Cozart on Saturday, July 15th, from noon to 1:00 P.M. at the Oakley Station Kroger: 4613 Marburg Ave, Cincinnati, OH 45209.

Fans are invited to the Kroger store between 11:30 A.M. and 1:30 P.M. to write messages to the troops, enjoy ice, cold refreshing Coca-Cola beverages, and enter to win signed Zack Cozart memorabilia and Coca-Cola giveaways. Fans can also meet Mr. Red Legs and Rose Red during this time.

“Kroger, Coca-Cola and the Reds have a long-history of recognizing and providing support for the men and women of our military and their families,” said Tim Brown, president Kroger, Cincinnati/Dayton division. “Message in a Bottle is one small way to honor them for their service.”

In addition to the USO of Central and Southern Ohio’s support in distributing the messages, Coca-Cola Consolidated also plans to distribute a portion of the bottled messages to more than 600 active-duty military and their families during a special event at Smale Riverfront Park, to be announced later this summer.

“The USO’s mission is about connections to family, home and country. Message in a Bottle is one more way we can provide a connection to home for our military service members, both locally and abroad,” says Sherry Ems, Executive Director of the USO of Southern & Central Ohio. “The USO of Central and Southern Ohio is grateful for the partnership with Coca Cola and Kroger. It is through this partnership that we can continue to be the Force Behind the Forces.””
